Alavi Anaipakos recently secured a successful judgment before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board against patent challenges filed by entertainment giant Netflix Inc.
The favorable ruling follows Alavi Anaipakos’ multimillion-dollar patent infringement victory for GoTV Streaming LLC against Netflix in October 2023. Amir Alavi led the firm’s trial team in the lawsuit focusing on the infringement of a GoTV wireless technology patent Netflix used without permission on its media platform.
After the trial in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Netflix was ordered to pay GoTV’s attorney’s fees in addition to the jury’s award.
Netflix continued to contest the GoTV patent before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board in an inter partes review (IPR) proceeding. Alavi Anaipakos’ Joshua Wyde and Steve Jugle defended GoTV’s patent during a hearing held this summer before a three-judge PTAB panel.
In the 80-page final written decision issued on October 29, 2024, the panel declined to accept Netflix’s contentions that certain elements of the GoTV patent were unpatentable.
